MA Professional Leadership and Management Programme Structure
The MPLM programme has been designed to offer a range of alternative pathways to suit the requirements of social workers and their agencies. Modules do not need to be completed consecutively. However, we strongly recommend the benefits of continuous study and the completion of full awards.
MA PLM Structure Chart
The following pathways are available,
- Continuing professional development: modules (core and elective) are offered as stand alone for CPD. Up to three modules can be taken as stand alone.
- Certificate in Professional Leadership and Management: 3 core modules to be completed (60M credits)
- PQ Higher Specialist award in Leadership and Management/Diploma in Professional Leadership and management: 5 core modules plus an elective (120M credits)
- PQ Advanced award in Leadership and Management/Masters in Professional Leadership and Management: 5 core modules plus an elective and dissertation (180M credits)
Core modules: to achieve an award the following modules must be successfully completed.
- The State, Professionalism and Inter-professionalism
- Leading and Managing in Multi-agency Settings
- Managing Human Resources
- Research Methods
- Managing finance (a core module for the PQ award)
Elective modules: elective modules can be completed as stand alone for CPD, one must be successfully completed to achieve a PQ award. Elective modules can be selected from Masters Programmes at Keele, subject to availability, for example:
- Childcare Law and Practice
- Professional Ethics
- Safeguarding Adults and Carers
- Safeguarding Adults - Interventions
- Mental Capacity
- Critical Perspectives on Contemporary Social Work
- Managing Finance
- Transformation and Change
- Practice based learning (shell module)
