Education

For International students

Hello and Welcome!

Education today is an international matter in various ways, and we are particularly welcoming to international students and provide plenty of opportunities for home students to broaden their horizons.

We have staff with research interests in a wide variety of countries, such as Kuwait, Thaland, India and the United States who present their research all around the world. Students have the opportunity to hear visiting lecturers from various different countries, and many of our students also take up the opportunity to study abroad as part of their degree; students have, in recent years, studied in Australia, China, the USA and Hong Kong, to name just a few of the possible destinations.

International students will join established worldwide communities at Keele, and will find plenty of support mechanisms in place to help them make the transition to study in the UK. If you have any queries concerning Education Studies please do get in touch with me!

Student Case Studies

Student Case Study 1 – Natalie, Educational Studies and Business Management, Uganda.

‘I applied to Keele as my cousin had studied there and really enjoyed the experience. It was      also regarded and high up on the national rankings so I thought ‘why not?’   Given that I had done some teaching in Uganda, the Keele program seemed ideal as its dual honors system meant it wasn’t just pushing me into a career in education. I have genuinely had a great time here!

I would recommend this course to overseas students. The lecturers have such passion about the subject and use a wide range of teaching strategies to get you familiar with a whole range of issues so it’s not a problem if you’re not from the UK! It’s nice when your supervisors and teachers actually understand and ‘get’ what you’re doing! My dissertation is on Ugandan education and I’m allowed to pursue my studies with no-one limiting me in my choice of topics! Given my combination of subjects, I’m looking to going into educational development and improving education in the neediest parts of the world. My educational knowledge will definitely help with that!’

Student Case Study 2 – Akmal, Educational Studies and Psychology, Brunei.

‘One of the things about Keele that I liked immediately was their joint honours programmes‌ not just for the breadth of academic knowledge it provided but also as it meant you  developed key skills of time-management and organization both of which are highly regarded by any employer.  This – along with Keele’s academic reputation – means it is also highly recognized by the Bruneian government.

The Educational Studies course is good for those who may not want to go into school teaching but who may wish to do something related to education.  Whilst you can go into teaching if you want I’m thinking about going on to become an educational counselor or psychologist and I feel that my joint degree will give me the chance to do that! I’d strongly recommend you applying to Keele for a great experience!’

Student Case Study 3 - Yunlin, Educational Studies and International Relations, China.

'I chose Educational Studies as I had an interest in young people particularly as their development is now so important in China with parents increasingly focusing on the ways to improve their learning.

The lecturers here are very nice to students and really motivate us to work hard. The modules are excellent as they focus on contemporary issues in education and are designed to make you think for yourself. Unlike other places, your opinion is really valued and, with your dissertation, you have the chance to research an area which interests you. This year I’m looking at the experiences of Chinese students at Keele all of which have been positive. Although I wanted to go into accountancy, having done this course I’m not so sure now!’
