Department of Occupational Health and Safety

I joined Keele as the Head of the Occupational Health and Safety Department in January 2010.  I oversee various aspects of occupational health and safety across the University sites.

I am a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupation Safety and Health (CMIOSH) with nearly 20 years’ experience in the management and governance of health and safety. I have extensive experience of health and safety regulation, having been an Inspector within various Divisions of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), covering nuclear and high-hazard sites as well as more general industrial and public premises.

 I have also worked in the nuclear industry with the Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), both as Site Safety Manager and in a corporate inspection role.  Following this I worked in the public sector managing corporate health and safety and emergency planning activities.  This included developing, implementing and reviewing policies, risk assessments and training programmes.
