WORLD LEADING RESEARCH AT KEELE - MUSIC / MUSIC TECHNOLOGY.
2008 Research Assessment Exercise rates 82% of research undertaken in Music and Music Technology at Keele
as 'WORLD LEADING or INTERNATIONALLY EXCELLENT'
details...

The Music Department at Keele was established in 1973. Since then, its activities and specialities have become internationally recognised, bringing an increasing number of applications at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. At the centre of the department's teaching and research is its commitment to contemporary music of all kinds. Students taking the Music Principal can explore topics ranging from French music to film music, from analysis to popular music, and from performance to composition. Music graduates are now working for publishers, major orchestras, the BBC, regional arts associations, schools, colleges and universities. Keele has an active musical life in every way.

The Keele Philharmonic Society – mostly run by students – supports a flourishing Orchestra, Concert Band, Big Band and Choir. In addition, Keele Concerts Society presents an international series of subscription concerts on Wednesday evenings. Students taking the Music Technology Principal are encouraged to explore creatively the newest developments in electronic and computer music. The facilities offered are particularly valuable for students who plan to go into the recording field, to work with music-oriented computer software, or to become composers or sound designers.
