Characterisation of salivary gland antigens in New World sandflies

(Maingon, Taha, Ward & Taylor)

We are investigating the salivary antigens from Lutzomyia longipalpis and other sandflies transmitting leishmaniasis in the New World in an attempt to identify candidate molecules for use in epidemiology and/or vaccine candidates.

Characterisation of the Lutzomyia longipalpis sandfly species complex

(Maingon, Hamilton, Ward, & Taylor in collaboration with Watts, Noyes, Kemp - Liverpool University and Peixoto and Souza Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

Using a combination of microsatellite markers, pheromones, copulation songs and analysis of behavioural genes we are investigating the sibling structure of the Lutzomyia longipalpis complex.
