Worldwide collaborationDr Ashraf M. Ahmed
Dr Ashraf Ahmed is an Associate Professor at El-Minia University (Egypt). He has been based in the Zoology Department at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia since 2005. He is collaborating with the mosquito/malaria parasite interactions group (Prof. Hilary Hurd) through the Royal Society Income Visit Program. He and his group are investigating the reproductive costs of malaria infection and immune stimulation, in the African malaria vector, Anopheles gambiae. Moreover, he is exploring the caspase-like activity in mosquito ovaries as a possible mechanism underlying the fecundity reduction as a result of malaria infection and immune stimulation. He is also collaborating with Dr Frédéric Tripet for exploring molecular identification of Aedes mosquitoes in Saudi Arabia through a joint project funded by the University of King Saud.
