About Us
Disability Services is made up of a team of Disability Advisers and Administrators. We work towards the social model of disability to remove environmental barriers that disable people in society, in particular those barriers related to learning and living at Keele. We aim to enable all students to access their studies and university services.
We offer friendly and confidential support and advice to current students, prospective students and applicants.
The term ‘disability’ covers a huge range of difficulties and is described in the Disability Discrimination Act as (enhanced by the Single Equality Act 2010 ) "a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a person’s ability to carry out day-to-day activities". This may include specific learning difficulties, sensory impairments, mobility difficulties, mental health difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions, medical conditions and temporary disabilities. If you are not sure if you would be eligible for support please contact us.
We are aware that a disability can impact on your learning. We believe in, and promote, the inclusion of all students into both the social and academic life of the university.
Every student is unique and has different and varying individual needs. We understand that many disabled people or those with a learning difficulty have lived with their condition for many years, if not all their lives. You are the expert and the only one who can direct us and other staff to fulfil your needs.
This information guide cannot cover everything so if you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to get in touch.
