The KUSP

The KUSP

Keele University Skills Portfolio logo

The Keele University Skills Portfolio is a collection of reflections based on your experiences during your time at university. These reflections can be about activities both within your programme of study but also aspects of wider life. These reflections are categorised along development themes such as team work, academic writing and leadership. The KUSP is written using an online system called PebblePad, see more below.

If you are and undergraduate or taught postgraduate your personal tutor is your point of contact for your KUSP. If you are a postgraduate researcher your point of contact is Curriculum Support and Development. You can discuss your personal, professional and academic development in meetings with your personal tutor. Sharing your KUSP entries with your personal tutor is a great way to structure these conversations. Eventually you will be submitting your finished KUSP to your personal tutor so it helps if they have been part of the process of reflection and development with you. In addition you can receive ILM accreditation for your KUSP, see below for more details.

PebblePad is an online portfolio building software used to compile the KUSP. By completing reflections (known as assets) and combining these into a portfolio (known as a webfolio) you can submit your KUSP to your personal tutor (undergraduate and postgraduate taught) or directly to Curriculum Support and Development (postgraduate researcher).

For assistance using PebblePad please see the following help videos. If you are still experiencing problems then please contact the I.T. service desk.

ILM

The Institute of Leadership and Management is the UK's largest awarding body for leadership and management qualifications. In a first for the UK higher education sector they have accredited parts of the KUSP.

Submit you KUSP in the normal manner (see above) and if it meets the requirements of the ILM accreditation this will be automatically recognised.

For your KUSP to qualify for ILM accreditation the following must apply:

  1. You must have started your course no earlier than September 2012.
  2. You need to complete your full registered award. Note that foundation courses, and undergraduate certificates and diplomas of higher education are not eligible for KUSP(ILM).
  3. The final portfolio must cover the 6 ILM areas
  4. Your personal tutor must be satisfied with your work by the central deadline

The six areas for accreditation are:

When looking through your work your personal tutor will take into consideration if you have made a meaningful attempt to address the questions posed in each asset. In doing so they might consider the following table. You should use this table as guidance when completing your assets to increase the chance that your personal tutor is happy with your work.

If you are uncomfortable with writing reflectively then look through the KLE materials, attend a Tune In workshop or visit the Write Direction.
