Anne Worrall graduated from Keele University in Sociology and Applied Social Studies, with the Certificate of Qualification in Social Work. After several years as a probation officer, she returned to Keele to obtain an MA and PhD in Criminology. She worked as a Lecturer in Social Work at Manchester University before coming back to Keele in 1989. She has held management responsibilities as Head of School and Director of the Centre for Criminological Research. She retired from full-time employment in 2009.
Anne is currently working with Dr Rob Mawby of Leicester University on an ESRC funded study - The occupational cultures of probation officers.
Anne continues her research interest in women offenders and women working in criminal justice.
Anne has close connections with the University of Western Australia, Perth, where she has been visiting 'Professor-at-Large', promoting inter-disciplinary research in criminal justice and social policy/ social work. She has also been a member of the Parole Board of England and Wales and was a member of the RAE2008 sub-panel for Social Work and Social Policy. She is an Editor of The British Journal of Criminology.
