Useful Information
Who can join?
Anyone! Our courses are open to any adult with an interest in or curiosity
about the subject. No previous qualifications are required for most
of our courses. We aim to offer courses that are interesting, to encourage
people who may not normally think of attending a university to try
something new and to make courses easily accessible for people with work or family commitments.
How do I join?
Send in the completed application form (printed in
this prospectus) with your fee by Friday 11 September OR
Friday 4 December for January start dates. You may also enrol
over the phone, using your credit card, or pay when you attend. Courses
requiring prior enrolment before the first meeting are marked with
a closing date. All students will be required to complete a registration
form and will be allocated a student number to be quoted when contacting
the centre.
Accredited Courses
Students are expected to attempt course work where set. Course
credits will be awarded to students who successfully complete work submitted
for assessment. Credits can provide opportunity for students to study for
University awards. For more information see Studying
for Credits.
Library Facilities
All students enrolled on accredited courses will be entitled to borrow
books from the Keele Library until the end of their course only. Authorisation
of borrowing rights will be issued to students on receipt of enrolment
details from the tutor.
Joint Courses
Courses marked with an asterisk (*) are run jointly with the Workers’
Educational Association, which also advertises them.
Admission to Courses
We operate a policy of open entry to our courses. However, we reserve
the right not to grant admission to courses in cases where we believe the
success of the course or the well-being of the class may be affected. A
student handbook is available.
Provision of Courses
The provision of courses is subject to the enrolment of sufficient numbers
of students and the maintenance of satisfactory conditions for the running
of the course.
Changes to Courses Advertised
We reserve the right to replace the advertised tutors or change the programme
where it is found to be unavoidable or to make other changes that may be
deemed necessary due to unforeseen circumstances.

Complaints Procedure
To make a formal complaint about any aspect of our provision, please
do so in writing to: Dr Marian Whittaker, Head of Continuing and Professional
Education, Keele University, Keele, Staffs, ST5 5BG.
Sending for Further Information
A number of entries encourage you to send for further
details, perhaps because there may be too much information to include
in the prospectus or because we have not yet finalised all the arrangements. Do
not be surprised if you do not hear from us immediately - as
soon as we have all the information we will mail it to you.
Data Protection Act 1998
The names of people enquiring about or enrolled on our courses are held
on a computerised mailing list which will be used to send information about
future courses. If you wish to be taken off this list, please let us know.
Car Parking on Keele University Campus
The arrangement for parking on campus is as follows: Pay and display
machines are now available for the use of all visitors during daytime hours,
or students may purchase an annual permit from 24-hour reception in the
Darwin Building. Students and part-time tutors are advised that to avoid
the probability of clamping, tickets should be purchased on weekdays, until
5.30pm. Evenings and weekends are free.
