Clinical Management and Leadership at Keele University
Clinical management and leadership courses have been running at Keele University since 1983, when the late Professor Roger Dyson had the vision and wisdom to see the importance of clinicians understanding and becoming involved in the management and leadership of healthcare in the United Kingdom. They are now designed and delivered by the Clinical Management and Leadership Team, which is part of the School of Medicine at Keele University.
We specialise in management and leadership courses and development programmes for clinicians working in the NHS. We have particular experience of working with doctors, but have also worked with multi-professional groups and management teams in a variety of healthcare organisations.
The early courses, provided by Professor Dyson, were for doctors in their final year of specialist training, aiming to equip them with the necessary management skills for successful transition to independent practice as Consultants. While these courses continue, we have also expanded our portfolio to include courses for Specialty, Staff Grade and Associate Specialist (SAS) doctors, as well as Foundation and Advanced courses for Consultants. In addition, we provide bespoke leadership and team development programmes tailored specifically for the needs of individual healthcare organisations, building on the success of the Medical Leadership Programmes for Medical and Clinical Directors, which we provided on behalf of the NHS Leadership Centre from 2001 to 2006. We are also able to provide individual coaching and mentoring.
We work closely with our clients to address their needs and maintain strong links with policy makers, both locally and nationally, to ensure that our courses and programmes are aligned to the vision and direction of modern world class healthcare.
Our vision is to support safe and effective healthcare in the UK through improving the skills of clinicians at all levels involved in the management and leadership of the service.
