Prunus 'Daikoku'
Introduced from Japan in 1899, described in the RHS Journal in 1916. ‘Daikoku’ translates as ‘one of the gods of fortune and happiness’. [Syn; P. serrulata ‘Daikoku’, ‘Kurama’]
It is a stiff narrow vase-shaped tree to 7 m high, robust growth.
Flowers late April to mid May. Double pure pink flowers 5.0 to 5.5 cm dia (resemble flowers of P. ‘Pink Perfection’). Clusters of 3 to 5 flowers. Flowers open flat, 34 - 36 petals per flower.
Young foliage is green, slightly bronzy.
