Prunus 'Asagi'
Known since 1937; it is very rare both in Japan and in the West. ‘Asagi’ translates as “shallow-yellow”.
P. ‘Asagi’ is a strain of P. ’Ukon’. It is less vigorous and less handsome than that cultivar.
It has lighter flowers than P. ‘Ukon’. 8 - 12 petals per flower. Colour is a greenish-yellow slightly tinged with pink. Single. It is the earliest of the yellow flowered cherries to open.
