Aims
This module will enable students to develop the knowledge and skills required to practice effectively with adults. The aim is also to enhance students' analytical skills in relation to adult social work, with a focus on the lived experience of individuals and families.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Analyse contemporary adult social policy, wider socio-political contexts and their relationship to practice and service delivery in social work with adults: 1Analyse and apply legislative and legal frameworks which underpin social work practice with adults and consider these in the multi-agency context of social work: 1Consider and analyse the tensions within adult social work, including those inherent in upholding the individual rights of service users and their families to autonomy and independence, whilst also assessing and managing risk and safeguarding: 1Analyse the complexities of multi-agency and partnership working in adult services: 11Demonstrate an understanding of risk assessment, risk taking and risk management in the context of professional decision-making and accountability:
Scheduled Learning Lectures/workshops 58 hours plus tutorials 2 Hours smaller group work may be used to supplement whole group sessions, within the above hours (depending upon size of student group) to promote in depth discussion and deeper learning. Independent Study: 240 hours - Directed study 50 hours preparation for scheduled learning - 100 hours Wider reading, - 90 completion of assessment tasks.
Description of Module Assessment
1: Case Study weighted 100%4000 word case studyCase study based assignment of 4000 words exploring contemporary social work practice. The case study will cover various current themes within adult social work including risk assessment, decision making, legislation, ethical and professional dilemmas. The case study will be provided by the module lead and will differ each academic year.
