Description for 2024/25

This module is the clinical placement module for the third year, the student will complete assessments in the areas of adapted technique in general radiography, CT head and theatre radiography

Aims
The module aims to enable the student to develop and reflect upon their personal and professional behaviour within a clinical setting and modify appropriately behaviours and techniques in light of their learning with reduced supervision for a level 6 student. With the support of Practice Educators, the student will develop radiographic knowledge and skills in a relevant external setting to include General Radiography, Theatre Radiography and Computed Tomography (CT). Focusing specifically on adaptive technique, Computed Tomography Head scans and Fluoroscopy imaging within the assessment structure and undertaking these examinations using evidence-based practice and appropriate radiographic interventions. Interprofessional education will also be covered.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Review weighted 0%
Mid and end of placement review of professional competencies
A review of the students ability to meet professional competencies outlined by the Society of Radiographers Code of Professional Conduct and the Health and Care Professions Council Guidance on Conduct and Ethics for Students within this practice experience and overall professional behaviour.

2: Viva weighted 30%
Verbal viva examination
30 minute VIVA based on 2 questions, one seen and one unseen. Student is given an hour to complete preparation for the seen question that is scenario based and represents an actual clinical encounter that a graduate may encounter on qualification. Clinical reasoning and critical thinking must be applied to the scenario.

3: Practical Exam weighted 35%
Clinical assessments
Within their PE3A and PE3B placement period, the student will choose (based on their clinical experience and areas of clinical rotation) to complete ONE (1) of a choice of THREE (3) Actual Clinical Encounter (A.C.E) assessments to be completed (one of these will have been achieved in the PE2A/B period): 1. CT head ACE 2. Theatre ACE 3. Plain imaging ACE

4: Practical Exam weighted 35%
Clinical assessment
Within their PE3A and PE3B placement period, the student will choose (based on their clinical experience and areas of clinical rotation) to complete ONE (1) of a choice of THREE (3) Actual Clinical Encounter (A.C.E) assessments to be completed (one of these will have been achieved in the PE2A/B period and a further ACE in the 3A/B period to total completion of all three at the end of the 3A/B placement period): 1.
