Description for 2024/25

The Fundamentals of Physiotherapy Practice 2 will introduce clinical anatomy and physiology and related movement science and prepare the students to conduct a subjective and objective assessment for the common MSK, CVR and Neurological presentations appropriate at this level.

Aims
To introduce the human anatomy and physiology focusing on the musculoskeletal, neurology and cardiovascular and respiratory systems
To introduce terminology associated with movement science
To introduce the physiotherapy assessment process in differing clinical specialties

Intended Learning Outcomes

describe and identify the anatomy and physiology of the human musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory systems: 1,2,3
apply normal anatomical presentation and physiological function in the musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory systems utilising the principles of movement science: 1,3
undertake a consultation and obtain a clinical history as part of a basic physiotherapy assessment: 2,3
demonstrate a safe and competent physical examination of a person with a simple musculoskeletal (MSK) cardiovascular and respiratory (CVR) and neurological presentation: 2
formulate a basic problem list: 2,3

Study hours

Active learning hours = 150 hours:
~30 hours in situ lectures,
~56 hours practical, workshops and seminars , and
~30 hours online synchronous or asynchronous lectures
~30 hours guided independent study and workbook
~4 hours assessment preparation .
Independent study includes self-directed study and revision for 50 hours in each specialty (MSK, CVR and Neuro) total 150 hours.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Online Tasks weighted 30%
MCQ Exam
This assessment will include up to 30 MCQ questions, total 45 minutes. This component has a 40% qualifying mark due to professional and regulatory body requirement.

2: Practical Exam weighted 50%
A 20 minute randomly allocated Interactive Practical Assessment
A 20 minute randomly allocated Interactive Practical Assessment. This assessment will test the student's fundamental physiotherapeutic assessment skills alongside applied anatomy and physiology. This component has a 40% qualifying mark due to professional and regulatory body requirement.

3: Workbook weighted 20%
Student will require to complete a workbook.
Student will complete a workbook with a number of tasks, to apply the skills and learning that they have achieved within the module. This assessment component has no qualifying mark.
