Description for 2024/25

You will participate in a series of interactive classes and online activities which examine the theories and methods used to examine gender and sexuality from a psychological perspective. Indicative content may include, for example, inequalities associated with particular identities, barriers for different gender identities and sexualities, stereotypes, specific gender and sexuality community issues and intersectionality. You'll be encouraged and supported to engage in up to date debates and insights, and critically evaluate psychological research and theory in gender and sexuality.

Aims
To introduce students to the psychological perspectives on gender and sexuality-related issues, ideas and theories, and engage students in critical thinking around the impact of such issues.

Study hours

20 hours of teaching and learning in class characterised by discussion and debate. 20 hours of structured engagement with online resources, and 130 hours of guided independent study.

1: Portfolio weighted 100%
Issue-based portfolio
A 3000 word portfolio describing the nature of a gender or sexuality issue (500 words), critically evaluating the psychological literature on that issue (1500 words) and outlining a lay summary (1000) to demonstrate the impact of the issue and recommended action.
