Description for 2024/25

Introduction to Sustainable Business Environments encourages students to consider the current and future actions of organisations within the business environment, discussing associated challenges and solutions to sustainability problems faced by contemporary organisations. Indicative module content includes business ethics, sustainable business models, and drivers for responsible organisations, such as the Sustainable Development Goals, consumers, and governments. Broadly, the module¿s assessment requires students to explore the sustainability actions and challenges of an organisation of their choice (ranging from local to global organisations), suggesting recommendations for operating sustainability in the business environments of the future.

Aims
The module aims to enhance students¿ knowledge and analytical skills in assessing and navigating sustainable business environments. Further emphasis is placed upon increasing student understanding of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and how these might be applied to contemporary business environments, along with the roles of various stakeholders in tackling organisational sustainability issues both now and in the future.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Presentation weighted 100%
Microsoft Sway Presentation
Students are required to construct a Microsoft Sway presentation detailing current positive and negative sustainability actions from an organisation of their choice. Students should also provide a well-considered set of recommendations for the organization, demonstrating clear expectations for the organisation as a business of the future. The Sway¿s contents should demonstrate clear links to the Sustainable Development Goals. The word count for the assessment is 2,000 words (+/-10%). The Sway should include a total of no more than 5 minutes of video content. The assessment brief: An organisation [of your choice] has hired you to evaluate its approach to operating sustainably within the business environment. You are required to create a Microsoft Sway presentation, which explores positive and negative sustainability actions taken by the organisation, along with providing recommendations for future actions within the business¿s environment. The organisation has requested that you demonstrate clear links to the Sustainability Development Goals within your presentation.
