Description for 2024/25

This module will dive deep into the transformative world of Learning Sciences in this digital age, discovering novel pedagogies and the nuances of digital pedagogic approaches. Students will explore the power of learning analytics to foster universal achievement, grasp the intricacies of eAssessment, and design innovations in EdTech.
Students will navigate the labyrinth of online identities, and understand the pivotal role of social networks in shaping online learning communities. This comprehensive journey is supported by a series of workshops, ensuring students are adept at evaluating the effectiveness of digital tools in reshaping the educational landscape.

Aims
This module aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of digital technology in an educational context. It encourages self-reflection by enabling students to critically analyse their personal learning processes involving digital technology, allowing them to identify areas of strength and areas in need of improvement.
The module equips students with the capability to utilise relevant educational theories and research concerning new pedagogies and digital teaching methods, fostering an in-depth appreciation of digital learning. Students will develop informed arguments for the selection of appropriate methodologies for achieving educational objectives using Educational Technology (EdTech). This empowers students to make well-informed decisions when integrating EdTech into teaching and learning practices.
The module focuses on developing students' skills in the evaluation of the effectiveness of innovative technological learning tools, ensuring that they can critically assess the impact of EdTech on learning outcomes, engagement, and overall educational experiences. The module aims to prepare students to navigate the dynamic landscape of digital technologies in education, enhancing teaching and learning processes while critically evaluating their own growth and the efficacy of EdTech tools which will be relevant for all learners.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Presentation weighted 30%
Individual presentation
Individual presentation of 10 minutes in duration. The asynchronous recorded presentation requires students to develop the significance, conceptual framework and potentialities for improving achievement through the proposed design of a digital learning tool to be used in formal and/or informal education.

2: Project weighted 70%
Digital learning tool design and commentary (1,500 words)
Students must design a digital learning tool initially. Students should then submit a 1,500-word commentary on their digital learning tool justifying all essential elements by drawing upon relevant literature, pedagogical theory and research.
