Aims
To enable students to develop intellectual, practical and transferable skills, that involves using evidence, to improve global health and reduce health inequalities.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Critically appraise identified literature relating to global health: 1,2
Evaluate a range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies used to guide interventions to improve global health and reduce health inequalities

Examine the basic principles of needs assessment: 1
Identify a relevant and appropriate question that focuses on research that can contribute to improvements in global health and discuss a clear rationale for this question: 1,2
Develop communication approaches in working with a range of stakeholders: 2

Description of Module Assessment

1: Assignment weighted 70%
A 2,500 research proposal to answer a global health challenge of your choice
Students will write a 2,500 research proposal that aims to answer a global health challenge of their choice. The assignment will consists of 6 sections: i. Background to the global health challenge of choice ii. Aims and research question for the proposed research iii. The rationale for the proposed research methodology iv. A description of the proposed project (including the role of ethics) v. An outline of the potential impact and outcomes of the research

2: Poster Presentation weighted 30%
Poster encouraging others to participate in your project
The module will include workshops in which students will work in groups to identify ways to engage with people, communities and organisations for projects that focus on reducing health inequalities. Students will then develop a poster that can be focused at individuals. populations or organisation to encourage their participation in the project.
