Description for 2024/25


Aims
To further develop students awareness of the main phonological, lexical and syntactic features of contemporary spoken and written English.
To further develop students' understanding of the field of English language teaching and practice in a variety of language teaching methods.
To further develop skills in teaching practice and classroom management including observing experienced teachers and teaching practice.
To give practical experience of assessing a learner's skills, designing materials and designing a syllabus when working with a learner on a one-to-one basis

Description of Module Assessment

1: Practical Assessment weighted 40%
Teaching Practice
The trainee teachers will teach a minimum of two x 1 hour lessons to a group of non-native English speaking learners. The trainee will also produce a lesson plan and post lesson self assessment.

2: Portfolio weighted 40%
Learner Profile
Students carry out a 2,500 word analysis of the needs of a learner through an interview, a test of the learner's speaking, writing, reading and listening and then plan and teach a 1:1 lesson based on their analysis.

3: Portfolio weighted 20%
Language Awareness Portfolio
Students will complete a 600 word portfolio consisting of three language awareness tasks. Each task (approximately 200 words) will focus on a particular aspect of English grammar and phonology such as short answer and multiple choice questions.
