Description for 2022/23

This module forms part of the BSc (Hons) Rehabilitation Science programme at Keele, which is an innovative, integrated programme that prepare the graduate for further study or employment in a health and social care setting. The module builds on content introduced in Year 1 and the student's research proposal submitted in Year 2 Semester 2 (Research Skills).


Aims
This module aims to develop further the student's research skills through the conduct and write-up of a research project.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Perform a comprehensive search, and critique, of the literature to identify and extract relevant evidence for a research project: 1
Design and conduct a research project incorporating relevant research design theory: 1
Manage, manipulate, analyse and interpret data in an evidence based manner (determined by the type of research study conducted): 1
Summarise, compare, contrast and synthesise research findings: 1
Independently manage a research project to completion (incorporating organisational, time management, communication, collaborative working and IT skills): 1

Study hours

40 tutor led hours which may include meetings with supervisor (up to 6 hours), lectures, workshops, tutorials etc. and assessment preparation classes.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Research Report weighted 100%
Research report
Each student is required to submit a research report of a maximum of 4400 words (the word count does not include figures, tables, references or appendices). The research report should normally consist of the following: Abstract (up to 400 words) Introduction (including rationale and objectives); Method (including justification of method, statement of ethical approval (where appropriate) and method of analysis); Results; Discussion of key findings; Conclusion; References; Appendices.
