Description for 2022/23

This module forms part of the BSc (Hons) Rehabilitation Science programme at Keele University which is an innovative, integrated programme that prepares the graduate for further study or employment in health and social care settings. The module introduces the normal anatomy and physiology of the human neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory systems and provides a basic introduction to movement science in these contexts.
The programmes reflect the shifting emphasis away from increasing the quantity of care towards enhancing the quality of care, moving away from a medical disease model towards a health model based on personal responsibility and prevention of disease.

Aims
To introduce the normal anatomy and physiology of the human body, focusing on the neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
To provide a basic introduction to movement science in the healthy adult (neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory systems).
To introduce terminology associated with movement science (neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory systems).

Study hours

30 tutor led hours which may include lectures, practical classes and workshops, seminars, tutorials and two hours of assessment preparation classes etc.
120 hours of independent study.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Exam weighted 40%
I Hour Multiple Choice Questions
A 1 hour examination. Up to thirty questions. Tests knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory systems and related aspects of movement science.

2: Oral Exam weighted 60%
A 10 minute oral examination
An oral examination of 10 minutes. The knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology of the neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory systems will be explored (sampled from either the neurological or the cardiovascular and respiratory systems).
