Students who have taken the Foundation Level module (ESC-00007 -Entrepreneurship Level 3) or the FHEQ Level-4 version of the module (ESC-10056 Entrepreneurship Level 4).
Entrepreneurship is a widely-used but little understood concept, often equated with new and innovative business ventures. It is often touted as the panacea for economic growth and development and a source of new jobs and new ideas. However, entrepreneurs also require a sound knowledge of how to set up a company and promote their business.This module aims to introduce you to the concept of entrepreneurship and new venture start-up and its role in economic and business development in particular. This will enable you to appreciate the skills required to create or begin a new business venture and equip you with relevant employability skills. Students will be arranged into teams at the start of the module and will carry out an assessed skills-based project to develop an entrepreneurial business activity, including preparing a detailed business plan and presenting the venture to staff experienced in business development as a viable investment proposition.
Aims
This module aims to introduce students to the concept of the entrepreneur, the processes in new venture development and the role and importance of entrepreneurship and innovation in economic progress. This will enable them to appreciate and develop skills required to create or begin a new business venture and equip them with relevant and transferable employability skills.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Essay weighted 50%2,000 word reflective essayStudents will write an essay on the concept of entrepreneurship and the entrepreneur and will be required to reflect on whether they possess the required attributes and skills to be an entrepreneur.
2: Group Presentation weighted 10%Group presentation of a potential business venture to a panel of assessorsIn a 15 minute presentation students, in groups of no more than 6 members, will present their business idea as an investment proposition. This will be followed by 5 minutes of questions by the assessor on the viability of the venture. Group members have specific roles agreed within the team (e.g. managing director, marketing director etc.)
3: Group Report weighted 40%Full business plan with separate sections authored by individual team membersTeams of no more than 6 students will submit a full 3,000 word business plan with sections authored by individual team members. Plans will be on the same business idea as the Group Presentation. In addition, plans will include a one page "Description of Participation" from each group member outlining the nature and extent of individual contribution. These descriptions will be excluded from the 3,000 word count.
