Description for 2022/23

Aims
The End-Point Assessment (EPA) has been designed to enable the apprenticeship to be completed in accordance with the Data Scientist Degree Apprenticeship Standard designed by employers. Successful completion of the EPA consists of 60 credits and signifies the completion of the apprenticeship as well as the full Degree. The EPA must be completed over a maximum total assessment time of 6 months after the apprentice has met the EPA gateway requirements. It will consist of 3 sections: A Knowledge Test, Report and Professional Discussion (based on a portfolio) in accordance with the apprenticeship standard.

Intended Learning Outcomes

explain aspects of the Knowledge outlined in the Data Science Degree Apprenticeship Standard: 1
design and prepare a work-based project and evaluate the Skills and Behaviours they have developed, as outlined in the Data Science Degree Apprenticeship Standard: 2
develop an e-portfolio of multiple work-based projects mapped to the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours as outlined in the Data Science Degree Apprenticeship Standard: 3

Study hours

Placement learning:
250 hours allocated to small work-based projects for development of the portfolio
200 hours allocated to work-based project
Independent study:
150 hours portfolio preparation; writing of project report and revision for knowledge test.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Class Test weighted 25%
Knowledge Test
30 question multiple choice test, lasting maximum of 1 hour to complete without reference books or materials. This test will assess the Knowledge component as outlined in the Data Science Level 6 Apprenticeship. This test must be past before progressing to the second and third assessments for the EPA.

2: Project weighted 50%
Report based on a work-based data science project.
A work-based project which the apprentice should complete prior to the EPA Gateway which must demonstrate the Skills and Behavioural (SB) outcomes as identified for the report as outlined in the Standard. The apprentice should show evidence of the planning and execution of the work-based project, including an evaluation of the processes followed, measurement of the SB, a summary of learning derived from the execution of the work-based project and recommendations for future activities. The report will be 7500 (+/-10%) and submitted within 6 weeks of the EPA start date. The overall structure should include: Executive Summary, Introduction, Background, Work Undertaken, Outputs, Further work, Conclusions and also References, annex and appendices.

3: Portfolio weighted 25%
Portfolio based on 6-8 work-based projects that informs the Professional Discussion
The portfolio presents evidence from 6-8 real-work projects from across the 3 years of the degree (excluding the project from which the assessed Project Report is produced). The portfolio enables the apprentice to demonstrate how they have applied their knowledge, skills and behaviours in a real-work environment to achieve real-work objectives. The portfolio is used to guide the Professional Discussion which assesses the portfolio and apprentice competencies.
