This module has three key parts. The first focuses on skills for employability including communication, problem solving and group work. Throughout the module, a reflective diary allows students to chart their progress in developing these skills. The second part focuses on the issues surrounding industrial chemistry including economic, international and sustainability aspects. Workshops focus industrial processes, the application of the 12 principles of green chemistry to processes and the chemistry of technology. Thirdly, students have the chance to undertake a group project to propose a solution to an industrial chemistry problem with strong links to sustainability. Workshops on innovation, project planning and finance, marketing and legal aspects support students to complete a group project presentation to pitch their idea before completing their final feasibility study proposal. This module further develops several aspects of the Graduate Attributes.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Poster Presentation weighted 25%Poster and InterviewStudents will prepare a poster on a specified topic related to the chemistry of technology, and attend a poster interview (15 minutes per student) to present the poster and answer questions on the topic and related background science.
2: Group Project weighted 50%2000 word report and 20 minute group presentationIn small groups, students will design and plan a chemistry SME focussed on the development of a single product. They will produce a professional report (business plan, 2000 words, 40% of module, tutor and peer assessment) covering the key aspects of this business including the background chemistry, identification of potential customers and consumers, project plan, budget, manufacturing requirements, and legal issues including health and safety and environmental contexts.
An initial group presentation to 'pitch' their idea will be included to give feedback on the ideas (10% of module, assessed through tutor and peer assessment)
3: Portfolio weighted 25%Porfolio of tasksStudents will respond to specific prompts based on workshops and skills sessions to complete a series of reflections on transferrable skills development supported by tasks related to industrial chemistry. The portfolio will be equivalent to 1500 words when completed.
