This module provides students with knowledge and critical understanding of the requirements of the international GAAP allowing them to prepare non-group and basic group financial statements. The module explores how such financial statements may be analysed and interpreted and introduces students to measurement models and the conceptual framework adopted by the IASB.
Aims
To provide students with the knowledge and a critical understanding of the requirements of the International GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) allowing them to prepare non-group and basic group financial statements To provide students with the knowledge and techniques to analyse critically and interpret financial statements and recognize their limitations.To introduce measurement models and the conceptual framework adopted by the IASB (International Accounting Standards Board).To familiarise students with the institutional and social contexts of formulating international accounting standards and provide them with the knowledge to evaluate the cultural, political and market forces that influence this process.To understand and critically evaluate the implications of the globalisation of accounting regulationTo provide students with transferable IT skills in the preparation of company accounts.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Essay weighted 50%2000 word essayStudents will have at least four weeks to prepare the 2000 word essay, which will evaluate their understanding of social and political context of international financial reporting. The preparation would require students to explore existing body of the relevant literature.
2: Unseen Exam weighted 50%2 hour unseen examAssessment 2 is an unseen closed book exam which will be in situ under exam conditions and following the university's regulations. The exam is two hours examination focused mainly on the evaluation of students' ability to interpret single and consolidated financial statements and critically discuss other international financial reporting topics.
