This module forms part of the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy programme at Keele, which is an innovative, integrated programme that prepares the graduate for further study or employment in a health and social care settings. The module builds on content introduced in Year 1 and builds on the student's research proposal submitted in Year 2 Semester 2 (Research Skills).The programme reflects the shifting emphasis away from increasing the quantity of care towards enhancing the quality of care, moving away from a medical disease model towards a health model based on personal responsibility and prevention of disease. Graduates of the three year BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy programme are eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
Aims
This module aims to develop further the student's research skills through the conduct and write-up of a research project.

Intended Learning Outcomes
1design and conduct a research project incorporating relevant research design theory: 11summarise, compare, contrast and synthesise research findings: manage, manipulate, analyse and interpret data in an evidence based manner (determined by the type of research study conducted): 1independently manage a research project to completion (incorporating organisational, time management, communication, collaborative working and IT skills): perform a comprehensive search, and critique, of the literature to identify and extract relevant evidence for a research project: 1
40 tutor led hours which may include meetings with supervisor (up to 6 hours), lectures, workshops, tutorials etc. and assessment preparation classes. 260 hours independent study.
Description of Module Assessment
1: Research Report weighted 100%Research reportEach student is required to submit a research report of a maximum of 4400 words (the word count does not include figures, tables, references or appendices). The research report should normally consist of the following:
Abstract (up to 400 words)
Introduction (including rationale and objectives);
Method (including justification of method, statement of ethical approval (where appropriate) and method of analysis);
Results;
Discussion of key findings;
Conclusion;
References;
Appendices.
