Successful completion of Level 2 Physics
A core module for Physics majors. Use of a variety of library resources and the presentation of scientific information in the form of a paper, poster and talk. A 4,000 word dissertation is written on an approved physics topic and poster and seminar presentations are made.
Aims
To give students who have decided to specialize in Physics the opportunity to investigate in depth a physics topic of their choice. To build on the communication skills that have been developed in previous years (e.g. through laboratory reports, essays, tutorials and word processing). To provide students with the ability to produce a coherent digest of information on a physics topic and demonstrate a broad awareness of ideas in physics.

Intended Learning Outcomes
Successful students should be able to collect information on a physics topic and present this to a peer group by an oral presentation [1].Successful students should be able to explain and communicate a physics topic to a peer group by a poster presentation [3].Successful students should be able to assemble and review information on a specific topic and produce a substantial, detailed dissertation [1].

Description of Module Assessment
1: Dissertation weighted 60%Dissertation 4000 wordsIncluding submission of a draft report and a viva on the draft report.
2: Oral Presentation weighted 20%Oral PresentationThe student will be required to present a talk to their peer group and the Dissertation Committee and answer questions on the subject of the talk.
3: Poster Presentation weighted 20%Poster PresentationThe student will be required to present and defend a poster to their peer group and the Dissertation Committee, 10 minutes plus questions & answers .
