Consultancy - Keele University

Consultancy

Members of staff are permitted to undertake private consultancy work providing that they adhere to the University’s Conditions of Employment.  When staff engage in such activities, the University has the right to assure itself that the activities do not conflict with University interests.  This policy framework specifies the maximum amount of time the University will permit staff to engage in approved private consultancy.

Other private consultancy, undertaken without the University, and with no association with the University, is referred to as “Private consultancy”. When staff engage in such activities, the University has the right to assure itself that the activities do not conflict with University interests and staff should ensure that they observe these requirements.

Staff resources

When available the additional earnings policy will govern the number of days that staff could conduct consultancy within their own time and the financial and legal issues surrounding this activity.

All staff must be aware of any potential conflicts of interest and be familiar to the policy, guidelines and procedures available.

Before discussing with clients, it is advisable to have a Confidential Disclosure Agreement . This should be undertaken with Research and Enterprise Services (RES) support, maintain and manage the process.

RES are also developing a process for coordination of Expert Witness work. This activity should be discussed with RES in order that any of the above issues are resolved.
