Half way down the side of lake 2 stands a huge Beech. Look at it closely and you will see that the leaves are very dissected.
This is a Fern-leaved Beech Fagus sylvatica 'Asplenifolia'. It is not a true species but a variety of the Common Beech. In fact, a damaged shoot will produce normal-shaped beech leaves. This particular tree is a grafted specimen.
