Taught Courses (Master of Research)
As a student in the Department’s M.Res. programme you can choose between two pathways: US History and Politics and American Literature and Culture. Both offer you the opportunity to produce a substantial piece of independent research and writing, and to undertake wide-ranging, systematic training in research skills. You follow a personally designed programme, comprising a 20,000-25,000 word dissertation (90 credits), one module covering research skills and reflective practice in the humanities (30 credits), and further focussed and subject-specific training (totalling 60 credits) in either US History and Politics or in American Literature and Culture.
The M.Res. is specifically designed for students who wish to proceed to doctoral research in the humanities and for those who wish to undertake research for reasons of personal and career development.
