How does it Work?
We collect What Happened To's from about May to about February each year and publish synposes of these in the annual forever: keele magazine. When forever: keele is ready to be published (usually about April), we replace the WHTs on the website with those received since February of that year and start all over again, adding them as they come in.... The current series of WHTs was begun in March 2013.
You can read past What Happened To's in our online versions of the forever: keele magazine

Paul Wilder: After an eventful period of upheaval in my life, I have finally secured a permanent job and house again and now reside in Farnborough, famous for its airfield and proximity to lots of armed forces related establishments. Whilst at Keele I developed a hobby of organising live role play events and have done now ever since on an even bigger scale (~2000 attendees this Easter) and now part of my job involves something very similar – running medical simulations using robot manikins and actors!
1991
Sarah Nunn (Cornall): My eldest child of 3, Amy, is now married and studying to be a nurse. Patrick is in the sixth form. Orla, the youngest, is doing well in year 8. I am looking for a route back into work following some medical difficulties. I am hoping to cycle 100 miles in August.
Helen Ogden (Belza): I am currently a full-time mum to Hector (4 ½) and Laurence (3). My last job was as Manager of the National Pathology Benchmarking Service based at Keele. I enjoy my career break immensely and am making the most of it. The plan is to return to work in 2014.
John O’Shea (Lake): After working across a range of industries, I’ve fallen into politics and have become a councillor for Acocks Green in Birmingham. Still married to Luisella (1990) Parietti with four children – 3 to 17.
Jonathon Spurling: I’ve been an assistant head teacher in Kent for 5 years and unlike most in the profession – I still love it, after 20 years as a teacher. I also do football freelance writing and have written 2 acclaimed books on Arsenal FC. Happily married to Helen for 11 years, with 1 daughter – Phoebe. Still regularly see mates from Keele.
Ian Stephenson: After 20 years in mainstream education, Ian has recently transferred to teaching at P.R.U Wolverhampton. A music graduate, he is M.D. of WBOS Youth Theatre, performs at many of the Midlands’ tap theatres (in the pit!) and had written a musical which premieres in 2013 and at time of writing has reached the “Search for a Twitter Composer” finals. He has 4 daughters!

Christos Karamanlis: I graduated in 1994 with a BA in History and Politics and with no second thoughts, even though I was accepted in other unis. I continued with my masters in Keele where I graduated with an MA in European Studies next year. Then I was accepted for a PHD at the University of Westminster (former PCL) but I didn’t follow it because I decided to finish the law school in Greece, which I did. Now I am a lawyer in my family law firm in Athens, married and have a son 3 years old. With many of the Greeks of my time we are still close friends, we are seeing each other constantly and we make small reunions every now and then. This is only due to the Keele years and life we had when we were students which brought us so close and we don’t want to forget it after 18 years.

1998
Robert Carmichael: Performed a fairly routine tour of postgraduate duty working in pubs, clubs and upon factory floors. At the time I didn’t possess either the drive or inclination to do something with my life, positive or otherwise. Spent a rather soul destroying 18 months working as a data entry clerk for a company that specialised in the distribution of electrical components. It dawned on me that life was not at all like a box of chocolates; life was rather a big bag of Revels in which I kept picking out the inferior, manky, nutty efforts. Time to make a change. I applied for and obtained a position as a Health Care Assistant in an Orthopaedic Trauma unit at my local hospital. I loved it. A year and a half later, I commenced my DipHE in Adult Nursing at what is now Birmingham City University. Three years later again, and not only had I been awarded my DipHE, but I had also fell in love with the wonderful woman with whom I’m presently engaged. During my tenure in the NHS I have worked in a variety of disciplines including – but Neurosurgery, but my professional passion are the eyes. I’m in the process of obtaining my BSc Nursing with a specialist pathway in Ophthalmology, I’d like to become a Clinical Nurse Specialist in either Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration or inflammatory eye disease, or given recent academic success, pursue a Masters degree with a view to teaching. So yes, that’s life after Keele: quiet, superficially boring, but pleasing nonetheless. I’m a happy man. You know what? I was working an agency shift in Newcastle-under-Lyme for a Community Outreach Clinic and I just started to feel terribly, terribly nostalgic. I’d not even set foot on the campus since 1998, so when I drove up there after my shift I was frankly gobsmacked. Pottered about the campus for a time, reacquainting (or trying to) with old landmarks and memories. It was an odd mix of bemusement, bafflement and a mild euphoria. I also felt decidedly old.
Paul Grimsley: I am a published writer of fictio nand poetry, living in the US.

Emma Sundblad (Betteridge): Lots of nostalgia in the latest Forever:Keele. My eldest son spent 3 yrs at Keele nursery – now he’s about to go back to university as a student (sadly not at Keele). And as my husband and I celebrate the 15th anniversary of our wedding in Keele Chapel, I was sorry to read about the state of the organ that played our wedding music.
