Study Abroad

Many of our alumni in North America and Australia are there simply because they undertook Study Abroad – going to one of Keele’s partner universities or coming to Keele for a unique experience in learning and living abroad. They all know that study abroad changes lives and creates new futures; it broadens horizons, enhances employment prospects and adds authentic understanding to study. And it creates a valuable network of amazingly diverse international friends!

"The decision I took to study abroad was probably the biggest and best decision I have made. It has given me so much more than I expected, and the experiences, the friendships I have made, and the new ideas I have brought back with me are priceless. Studying abroad is a totally rewarding and fulfilling experience." Katie Holland, Keele

Study abroad mini "My period of study abroad was one of the most motivating and enriching experiences so far. Employers, friends and colleagues always appear to use it as a measure of ambition and personality. Everyone should have the opportunity!" Duncan Burns (Loyola, Louisiana)

Study Abroad Alumni Friends

Our "Study Abroad Alumni Friends" initiative began in 2006 to connect students travelling from Keele to study at our partner universities in Canada, the USA and Australia. The Alumni Friend lives near the partner university and offers a welcome, friendship and support to help the student make the most of their study abroad experience.

"The Study Abroad friends programme is a brilliant idea. I made some good acquantainces at my partner university and found it very useful to have some friends near by just in case." Hattie (Southern Maine)

"I had a truly brilliant time in Vancouver... it is the best study abroad location! Meeting with one of our Keele alumni was definitely a worthwhile experience; we got on very well and built up a good rapport - plus I learnt a lot about the area." Faizaan (British Columbia)

The programme has been very helpful to me. Steven picked me up from the airport when I arrived and took me to the superstore to get basic essentials and was an enormous help and a lovely guy. Gillian and I have wandered around Toronto and gone for afternoon tea and we plan to have dinner sometime soon and she has been a really interesting and helpful friend to have.” Clarissa (York)

“I met up with my alumni partner a few times - thanks for putting me in touch with her. Caroline was really helpful about being able to tell us more about New Orleans and good places to go to.” Lucy (Loyola)

Elly and I went down to Raleigh and managed to contact them to meet them. We met them for lunch, they took us to a 'proper' American diner, and we were there for a couple of hours talking a lot. They told us a lot about things they got up to at Keele...was really good.” Layla(Appalachian State)
