Sam Ward - PhD Student
I graduated from Keele University in 2008 with first class honours in B.Sc chemistry with applied environmental science.
My third year dissertation project was on the ‘Synthesis and Characterisation of SBA-15 Type Mesoporous Materials’ and investigated how altering the reaction conditions allowed the structure of the material to be fine tuned to provide properties which would suit particular applications.
I am currently studying for a PhD in chemistry; I am researching the renal handling of silicon imbibed as silicic acid rich mineral water. The purpose of this investigation is to gain insight in how individuals excrete silicon in their urine when it is imbibed as silicic acid-rich mineral water. Any affects upon the urinary excretion of aluminium and the essential trace elements copper and iron are also studied.
