Biography

I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 1999, specialising in Musculoskeletal Outpatients as a Spinal Specialist and Extended Scope Practitioner. Over time, I transitioned into the role of an Advanced Physiotherapist Practitioner in an NHS Musculoskeletal Triage Service.

My journey led me to develop a keen interest in Occupational Health. I served as a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Occupational Health within the NHS, private practice, and as a contractor for the British Army. This diverse experienced has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the intersection between musculoskeletal health and occupational well-being.

Joining IPRS Health in 2016, I initially contributed in a clinical audit role before transitioning into clinical triage and Virtual Physiotherapy. Presently, I serve as the full-time Clinical Lead of the Virtual Physiotherapy Service at IPRS Health.

Research and scholarship

I am actively engaged in academic pursuits, currently pursuing a Professional Doctorate in Physiotherapy at Keele University. This academic journey reflects my commitment to advancing knowledge in the field of physiotherapy. My ongoing research explores the barriers and enablers to Virtual Physiotherapy, focusing on the perspectives of physiotherapists. This research aims to contribute valuable insights to the evolving landscape of virtual healthcare.

Teaching

I have contributed to the education of physiotherapy students, both at undergraduate and post-graduate levels. This includes clinical placements for Cardiff University and UEA, as well as serving as an MACP clinical mentor for master’s students. I have taught on the BSc and MSc Physiotherapy at UEA.

Further information

My professional interests lie in the progressive role of Virtual Physiotherapy in assessing and treating MSK conditions. Additionally, I advocate for the crucial role of physiotherapists in assessing individuals’ work capabilities and providing relevant work advice within the realm of Occupational Health.
