What is A2K?

If you are in Year 12 and thinking about going to University then A2K is a project for you!

Access to Keele (A2K) is a programme designed  to help Year 12 students make informed decisions about your educational future by supporting you with your transition to Higher Education. A2K will also benefit your UCAS personal statement!

  • Access to Keele gives you lots of opportunities to learn about and experience Higher Education with the opportunity to take part in core events taking place over four days throughout the academic year.
  • You will also be matched with a fully trained Keele Student mentor via our brand new secure Ementoring website who will help to support and guide you throughout your time on the scheme.
  • The Ementoirng site also provides a range of fun, interactive activities, articles and resources to support your current studies.

Completing the programme will provide you with invaluable core learning skills that will support your transition to Higher Education and will also look great on your personal statement whether you decide to apply to Keele or not!

What is the structure of A2K?

As part of A2K you will visit the Keele campus to attend four events throughout the academic year which will help you develop a portfolio of work that you can use to support your UCAS Personal statement. The programme of events for the 2012-2013 academic year is as follows:

A2K Launch Event

Wednesday 12th December 2012

  • A chance to meet other A2K learners

  • A chance for parents and teachers to visit Keele

  • Find out more about the A2K programme and Higher Education

A2K Day 1- Experience University and life as a student?

Wednesday 20th February 2013

  • An introduction to university, courses available and student life

A2K Day 2- Develop skills for success at University

Thursday 26th March 2013
  • Develop Skills for success at university such as essay writing and referencing
  • Take part in sample lectures and seminars

A2K Day 3 -Learn more about studying at University

Friday 5th July 2013
  • Attend an academic master class
  • Meet Keele Lecturers
  • Team Building and Time management

A2K Day 4 - Planning Your Future

Friday 27th September 2013
  • Information about UCAS Applications and  Personal Statements
  • Find out about student finance and the students union

Please be aware when you are considering applying for this scheme that you will be required to make your own transport arrangements to attend A2K events. The Keelelink team are unable to provide support with travel costs for learners taking part in the scheme.

 

How do I get Involved?‌ ‌

To register for the scheme you will have to meet HEFCE's WP requirements.  There are a number of different criteria that we look at to see if students meet these requirements; for example, living in a low participation area, parents occupations being in the NS-SEC 4-8 remit or having a disability.

If you are unsure if you meet this criteria we encourage you to still submit your application and we will get back to you to let you know if you are successful.
